Gourmet Potatoes Grown From True Botanical Potato Seed™

Potato plants are normally grown from pieces of cloned potatoes… thus all plants are identical. But these revolutionary potatoes were grown from True Botanical Potato Seed™ A radical change that brings diversity back to the potato plant family!

Potatoes grown from True Botanical Potato Seed™ are naturally variable, enhancing the uniqueness of this wholesome food. You'll find more variation in size and color in our Clancy variety than in other potatoes. This is an indication of some diversity within the True Seed population and despite these slight variations, Clancy has excellent cooking qualities. You can roast, bake, boil, French fry or mash them. They're a delight to the taste buds and to the eyes!

NON-GMO!  The result of 30 years of local, traditional plant breeding right here in California… building on thousands of years of common sense selection by Andean Mountain Farmers!

These delicious Organic spuds bring diversity, respect for the environment and sustainability to one of our favorite veggies!

A Revolution In Potato Production

The USA grows a bit over one million acres of potatoes… 10% of that acreage (roughly 100,000 acres) must be devoted to growing cloned seed potatoes for reproductive purposes. With True Botanical Potato Seed™ about 1,000 acres could satisfy that same demand, theoretically releasing nearly 100,000 acres of current “clonal seed production” resources to food and quality nutrient production! We're not suggesting that True Botanical Potato Seed™ can or should replace all of the current clonal production system at this time… however it certainly illustrates the potential efficiency and sustainability advantages from using real potato seed. This is just the start. Look for new True Botanical Potato Seed™ varieties that will become commercially available in the coming years.

In clonal production, potato plants are reproduced by cutting a “seed piece” that includes one or more eyes of the mother tuber. One of the challenges with this method of reproduction, is that bits of soil adhere to the seed pieces and are shipped along with them to the production farm. The clonal pieces can carry disease, in addition to the soil, creating a pathway for soil pathogens to spread and the need for chemicals to combat them. Crops grown from True Botanical Potato Seed™ don’t transfer soil, eliminating this pathway and greatly reducing the need for use of agro chemicals (or eliminating them). This also makes True Botanical Potato Seed™ a great choice for growing Organic potatoes.

Potatoes are a very important global crop providing critical nutrition, especially in many developing countries. Shipping “seed potato pieces” to many of these areas is very expensive in terms of logistics and can limit the viability of potatoes being a cost-effective sustenance crop for these regions.

With clonal production, the new potato plants are genetically the same as the parent plant. True Botanical Potato Seed™ uses traditional plant breeding and seed production techniques which enhance genetic diversity. You’ll see that in the naturally variable sizes and colors of potatoes grown from True Botanical Potato Seed™. We think you’ll agree the difference is delicious!
